About Me

Now for the hard part... About me!
I have had an interest in pianos for as long as I can remember. As a child, I remember experimenting with the household piano trying to work out tunes I'd heard on the television, with a little help from my older sister who also played a bit. Over the next few years I had the odd lesson with local teachers, before taking up serious study at the age of 16 when I was given a place at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester. At Chetham's I studied under Nigel Pitceathly - the then Head of Keyboard - a working relationship which is still kept to this day. After leaving Chetham's, it became apparent that I wasn't going to make a living from playing the piano. So with my more than adequate piano playing skills, along with an inquisitive mechanical mind (I used to study Haynes car manuals as a child too!) I decided to enroll on a piano tuning course at Newark College in Nottinghamshire. After Newark, I gained much experience working as a tuner/technician on high class instruments for some of the larger piano retailers across the North West, and with the Head Technician of Bridgewater Hall. Since then, I've been building up a good private customer base aswell as tuning for some of the top pianists including:- Martin Roscoe, Peter Donohoe, Stephen Hough and Nikolai Demidenko and artists such as Barbara Streisand and Michael Buble at venues such as the Bridgewater Hall and MEN Arena.

When I'm not tuning or playing pianos, I can usually be found in my garage tinkering with a classic car (another passion of mine!). Currently, I am in the process of rebuilding a 1965 Volkswagen Beetle.
